Request Refusal: Turning Down Software Training
As director of marketing at Trinity Software Systems, 31 rue Prevost, Hull, QC
J9A 1P1, you are confronted with the task of denying a request from a potential
customer. Ava Brown, Principal, Heritage School, 135 rue Notre-Dame, Hull, QC
J8X 3T2, is interested in purchasing your educational software system, but she
wants training from Trinity for 65 Heritage teachers and staff.
The training costs would be extensive, but the real problem is that your company
doesn't have the personnel for this huge task. Instead, you would like to train one
or two Heritage teachers as on-site trainers. These teacher-trainers then would
instruct other Heritage teachers and staff. Your company also would provide
training videos and a training program guide.
Using teacher-trainers at other schools has kept your staff expenses low. Thus
far, schools have been satisfied with the result. In fact, schools that use Trinity
software enjoy having their own "experts" on hand. Because Trinity maintains an
ongoing relationship with them, teacher-trainers are informed of software updates
and can get help if they need it. The software is user friendly, and many local
schools use it.
Other software companies often provide such "hit and run" training that schools
have difficulty using their software, even though all teachers supposedly have
been trained. These companies offer little to the many teachers who have
questions long after training is over.
Write a letter to the principal denying her request but keeping her as a potential
customer. Send her a training program guide and a link to your training video.
Offer to put her in touch with a teacher-trainer from a nearby school. She can
reach you at (416) 921-1489.
