Programmer needed for experiment development - Opensesame, Javascript, MindProbe
Budget: $250 – $750 AUD
I am a PhD student about to commence data collection for my final study. I now require running my experiment online due to COVID-19 and thus have opted to use Opensesame, JavaScript and Mindprobe. I have no experience with coding (I just completed the first module of a beginners JavaScript tutorial, yikes!) and am only just learning Opensesame (I previously used superlab to run my experiments face to face). I am wondering what the options are for paid support to develop and implement the following experiment:
The experiment involves having participants complete the following in an online format: Complete 8 short self-report questionnaires, read one of 2 vignettes (random allocation to active and control conditions) whilst viewing an accompanying reference photograph of deliberate self-injury (DSI) and then after reading the vignette complete a manipulation check via answering multiple choice questions and to engage in a computer task viewing stimuli of simulated deliberate self-injury (scratches made with a paper clip) ranging in number from 1-5, to which they have to respond YES/NO as to whether they would seek help for the injury pictured. The order of the questionnaire and computer task are required to be counterbalanced. And finally, the participants will be asked the following open question at the end of their participation, in which they will need to type a response to be recorded for a qualitative analysis: “What reasoning did you use to decide when help should be sought when observing the images of deliberate self-injury”.
The experiment requires presentation of 5 diagrammatic stimuli of DSI, presented in random order 10 times each on a monitor for 2000ms, (50 presentations per condition). After every presentation participants' will be asked to make a determination (yes/no) of whether they believe help should be sought from a mental health professional. I will need to plot each participants' responses to all of the trials (Y/N) in order to determine the "threshold" number of scratches that each person determines is the point at which they would consistently seek help to create and overall point of subjective equality (for our last study, the number of scratches was 2.40 that made up the threshold for our sample).
