Data Migration Analyst

This is a full-time and long-term project.
It is of someone with strong general software experience (SDLC, Testing, data models/migration) which is fine, but the key technologies that we seek are missing that are needed for the start of the project. These are an understanding of IBM mainframe environments and in particular Document Composition facility (DCF) software inc. SCRIPT/VS (as per my note 28/4).
I can also add that there is likely to be a significant amount of C and COBOL to be understood, and possibly some to be rewritten. This is a complex high volume bespoke system of c.1990's vintage without documentation that needs porting to operate in a non-mainframe environment.
Nevertheless, as we approach the testing phases on a new target environment, then yes this sort of profile could fit a tester role, although it would also be preferable if they had a good knowledge of large-scale billing and print output testing. Until we work out the exact migration strategy, the precise requirements for test personnel are still being clarified.
So to clarify the role types mentioned:
Migration Analyst: expert level in DCF, SCRIPT/VS, C, COBOL. The role is to analyze the codebase/system and assist with moving DCF functionality to a new open environment using specialist software tools (that we can provide). This is may be restricted to higher-level activities (strategy, planning, oversight, problem-solving, etc) or could be full-time. This is the first role needed.
Testers: Knowledge of the above software running in both Z/OS and Linux/Windows environments, is sufficient to identify and triage causes of print/pdf output mismatch. Mid-level expertise and possibly some trainees under guidance. "
