We are building a custom CNC pipe milling machine that mills circular holes in PVC pipes. Each hole is cut in two passes: a rough cut with offset, and then a fine cut at final diameter for a clean edge. The sequence involves synchronized axis movement, spindle control, and pneumatic clamping/unclamping.

We need an experienced Klipper programmer to configure and program the system using a BTT Octopus Pro controller board + Raspberry Pi 4 (host running Klipper).

Machine Overview

8 logical stepper outputs driving 9 motors (one ganged pair on a shared STEP/DIR/ENA line).

Motors are closed-loop type with integrated drivers (STEP/DIR/ENA interface).

Motion axes:

X-axis: pipe length travel.

Y-axis: 4 synchronized motors for gantry straightness control.

Z-axis: 2 synchronized motors for vertical milling motion.

Revolver/feeder: 2 motors, sharing same output.

~20 digital 24V NPN sensor inputs: homing, pipe position, cylinder position, motor alarms.

4 solenoid valves for clamping, dust, and pipe handling.

3 relays for auxiliary devices (rollers, spindle group ON/OFF, dust).

10 spindle motors (500W each, controlled together via a single relay).

Cutting Cycle (example sequence)

Pipe is clamped in place by pneumatic cylinders.

Spindles start.

Z-axis lowers milling tool into the pipe wall.

XY axes cut a circular rough pass around the hole center (offset from final size).

XY axes cut the final circular pass at the correct diameter.

Z-axis retracts the tool.

XY axes return to standby position.

Cylinders release the pipe, dust extraction stops, machine waits for next cycle.

This cycle is repeated for multiple hole positions along the pipe.

Tasks for Programmer

Configure Octopus Pro + Pi4 in Klipper for multi-axis CNC use.

Map all STEP/DIR outputs, sensor inputs (via optocouplers), and outputs (relays/valves).

Implement homing sequences for all axes, with synchronized ganged motors.

Implement safety logic: stop on sensor faults, motor alarm signals, or mismatched axis positions.

Develop Klipper macros to run the complete pipe hole milling cycle.

Provide tested configuration files, wiring pinout, and clear operator instructions.

Requirements

Strong Klipper configuration experience (multi-axis, custom hardware).

Familiarity with BTT Octopus Pro hardware.

Ability to write robust Klipper macros for motion + I/O sequencing.

Experience with CNC or motion-control machinery is a big plus.

We Provide

Hardware: Octopus Pro board + Raspberry Pi 4, test setup available.

Complete I/O list, wiring diagram, and machine sequence documentation.

Remote access to machine or video feedback during development/testing.

This is not a 3D printer project — it is a custom CNC machine for pipe milling, requiring reliable multi-axis control, I/O handling, and custom macros. We expect close collaboration to get the machine running stable and safe.
