Azure Environment Optimization & Cleanup

I’m looking to streamline our entire Azure estate—production, non-production, and disaster-recovery—from both a cost and operational standpoint. My immediate priority is to optimise resource usage without sacrificing stability or security.

Scope of work
• Action groups – Review every group across prod, non-prod and DR. Tell me which ones can be merged or safely removed, implement the changes, and document the final alerting matrix.
• Key Vaults – We currently have multiple vaults scattered across subscriptions. If there is no hard regional requirement I want to consolidate to a single vault and decommission the rest, updating all references.
• AKS node pools – Monitor utilisation, recommend the right-sized pool count, and carry out the scale-down.
• Recovery Services Vault backups – Confirm the purpose of each RSV backup, delete anything obsolete, and standardise retention at 7 days wherever business rules allow.

Acceptance criteria
1. Clear before-and-after inventory of Virtual Machines, Storage Accounts, and Key Vaults.
2. Cost-savings estimate backed by Azure Cost Management or equivalent report.
3. No critical alerting gaps post-action-group consolidation (verified via test alerts).
4. All changes tracked in a change log with timestamps and ARM/Bicep/CLI commands used.

You’re free to work through Azure Portal, Azure CLI, PowerShell, or Terraform—just commit your scripts to our repo so we can rerun them later. I’ll provide access to each subscription and be available for daily check-ins so we can make decisions quickly.
