In Annex D of EN 1993 Part 1 – 5, bending moment design resistance My,Rd and shear design
resistance Vbw,Rd of plate girder with corrugated web are determined. The corrugated dimension
plays a significant role in determining the design resistance.
a. Create at least 5 models (either solid model or surface model) for linear buckling and non-
linear simulation in Autodesk Inventor Nastran. The plate girder model should be
generated for predominantly shear. Create parametrical models with different dimension of
corrugated web and thickness of the plate as stated in the table. The base value of hw = 1000
mm and b1 = b2 = 300 mm. Refer Annex D EN 1993 part 1 – 5 for a1, a2, a3, a4.
b. Run linear buckling analysis to determine the buckling capacity of each generated
parametrical model. Discuss the buckling mode and related result.
c. Run the non-linear analysis by complying one of material properties as stated in Annex C
of EN 1993 Part 1 – 5 for the models. Discuss the result by comparing with the linear
buckling analysis and the theory as per Annex D of EN 1993 Part 1 – 5 for shear design
resistance only.
d. Compare the result with flat plate girders with the same dimension of breath, depth, and
thicknesses with one of the plate girders with corrugated web.
