We’re looking for a part-time, hourly OpenRoads Designer to support telecom and utility relocation/design tasks (fiber/ductbanks, conduit, handholes, telecom attachments). Must hold a B.S. in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) and have hands-on experience with Bentley OpenRoads Designer (utilities/subsurface utilities module). Telecom/tower exposure (OpenTower or telecom workflows) is a plus.

Responsibilities:

Develop 60%/90%/100% relocation design for telecom conflicts and obtain utility owner approval

Responsible for designing new overhead and underground telecommunications

Prepare and provide exhibits as requested for Report of Investigation (ROI)

Coordinate with main consultant and Utility Owner to complete design items listed above

Coordinate with utility companies, and ensuring compliance with local regulations

Engineering skills designing new infrastructure; strong engineering skills are needed to develop effective designs and plans

Coordinate with other consultants, agencies to ensure design is according to client’s needs

Write design specifics as needed

Maintain effective communication with a range of stakeholders, including clients, contractors, utility companies, and local authorities

Project management skills: ability to plan, organize, and manage resources, timelines, and budgets

Able to solve complex problems/ tasks, resolving technical issues, addressing regulatory requirements, and managing unexpected changes

Strong communication skills are needed to ensure that everyone is on the same page and that expectations are clear

Attention to detail is critical to ensure that designs are accurate and compliant

Continue up to date on industry standards and regulations in the telecom industry

Produce civil/utility design deliverables in OpenRoads for telecom relocations and conduit routing

Model subsurface utilities, generate profiles/sections, and produce plan sheets

Work on a flexible, hourly basis (10–25 hours/week typical; remote with occasional site/coordination meetings)

Required Qualifications/Experience:

Bachelors in Civil Engineering (PE preferred)

2+ yrs of expertise performing design for telecom/utility relocations

Telecom/communications utility experience (fiber, conduit, ductbanks, handholes) strongly preferred

Minimum 2–3 years using Bentley OpenRoads (utilities/subsurface utilities)

2+ yrs managing communications with utilities, contractors, consultants and seek utility approval

2+ yrs strong expertise with GO95 and GO128

2+ yrs of experience with rail/utility design

Experience developing 30%/60%/90%/100% relocation design for telecom, electric utility conflicts

Strong understanding of industry standards, regulations, and best practices

Strong problem-solving skills to develop effective solutions and overcome obstacles

Experience designing infrastructure layouts, creating schematics, and managing documentation

Expertise with CAD and DGN files, AutoCAD, Bentley and OpenRoads Software

Able to work hourly, submit timesheets, and sign an NDA/consulting agreement
