Structural design (steel + timber floors) – Renovation of a 4-storey building (R+3 + attic) – Load calculations & plans

Job ID: 39869906

Budget: €30 – €250 EUR

I am looking for a freelance structural engineer (civil / structural / building engineer specialized in steel and timber structures) to perform a preliminary structural design study for a mixed steel + timber floor system as part of the renovation of an existing 4-storey building (R+3 + attic) located in France.

Project context
Existing masonry building with rubble stone walls and a timber-framed façade (colombage).
Building size: ≈ 42 m² per floor (4 levels + attic) - 9,72 m x 4,41 m
Basement already built in reinforced concrete, used to carry new steel posts.
Full replacement of all floor structures with a hybrid steel–timber system (beams + joists).

Scope of work
The mission is to produce a complete structural concept study, including:
General structural layout (beam / post grid, connection to masonry walls).
Preliminary sizing of steel (IPE/HEA) and timber joists (C24/LVL) according to Eurocodes.
Load transfer and reactions from floors to basement supports.
Connection details between steel beams, joists, and wall ledgers.
Simplified calculation notes (dead + live loads, deflection, serviceability).
Concept drawings / structural sketches (PDF and/or DWG).

The goal is to obtain a technical package that will later be validated by a certified structural engineering office (BE structure) for the final EXE/VISA phase and ten-year insurance coverage.

Deliverables
Calculation report (PDF or Excel)
Structural plan(s) and sketches (PDF + DWG preferred)
Summary table of sections, loads, and supports
Technical notes or comments on proposed structural system

Desired profile
Independent structural engineer experienced in renovation and mixed steel/wood design
Knowledge of Eurocodes 0–1–3–5 (and French practice is a plus)
Familiar with Robot Structural / RFEM / Graitec / CBS / AutoCAD
Able to produce clear, professional deliverables usable by another engineering firm later

Objective
Obtain a clear, professional structural study that can be used by my French structural office for the final detailed design and approval.
The focus is on accuracy, clarity, and practical construction feasibility (steel posts + beams + timber joists).
