Structural Engineer

Job ID: 36754691

Budget: £20 – £250 GBP

I am conducting building control drawings for a client, I am a civil engineer with a masters in civil engineering working towards my CEng status. The project is a simple garage conversion where I have scoped the removal of an existing flitch beam - above the garage door, for a steel member / glulam member replacement to provide adequate a variable deflection limit suitable for the patio doors below (5mm). The local authority has said I require SER certification therefore I am enquiring about a possible beam design from you guys or any help/advice.

I am 25 and starting to do some drawings alongside of my day job - really enjoying it, I just need some guidance / assistance on this front.

I have attached drawings below for reference. The pad stones will remain ( 7Kn dense block inner leaf) providing significantly more end support than the minimum 150mm required. It will also be laterally restrained by surrounding concrete blockwork and the end connection points with the two perpendicular inner leaf walls.

The flat sloping roof is pitched at 30 degrees and will have the internal vaulted ceiling battened to the timber rafters but other that next to no loading - not sure why building standards are being so difficult with it.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,
