Road Design for Hilly Terrain
Budget: ₹2,000 – ₹5,000 INR
I have generated a point cloud (CSV format) and orthophoto (GeoTIFF) of a hilly area. A road cutting was done earlier, and now I need a proposed road alignment and design prepared as per IRC standards for hilly roads.
Scope of Work:
Import and process the provided point cloud (CSV) and orthophoto (GeoTIFF).
Prepare a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) from the data.
Design a 2.5–2.7 km long road alignment (single lane / intermediate lane, width as per IRC).
Generate longitudinal profile (existing ground vs proposed formation).
Create cross-sections at every 25 m interval, perpendicular to the alignment.
Show formation width, carriageway, shoulders, side slopes, benches, breast walls/retaining walls as per terrain and IRC recommendations.
Compute earthwork quantities (cut & fill) using Average End Area / prismoidal method.
Propose cross drainage works (side drains and culverts) with approximate sizing and locations.
Deliver the following:
Alignment plan on orthophoto (with chainage).
Longitudinal profile (Excel + CAD/PDF).
Cross-section drawings (PDF/CAD).
Earthwork calculation sheet (Excel).
Drainage plan suggestions.
Standards to Follow:
IRC:52 – Geometric Design of Hill Roads
IRC:86 – Superelevation and Curves
IRC SP:42 – Road Drainage
IRC SP:13 – Culverts
Deliverables:
CAD drawings (Civil 3D / AutoCAD or equivalent)
Excel sheets (earthwork & chainage data)
PDF drawings (alignment, cross-sections, profiles)
Data Provided by Me:
Point cloud in CSV format (X, Y, Z)
Orthophoto (GeoTIFF)
Project length: 2.5–2.7 km
Requirements for Freelancer:
Civil Engineering / Road Design background.
Experience with Civil 3D / MX Road / QGIS / similar software.
Familiarity with IRC codes for hilly road design.
Ability to deliver neat drawings + reports.
Additional Notes:
Cross-section interval = 25 m.
Design speed = 30 km/h
Carriageway width = 3.75 m (single lane), with shoulders.
Total road cutting width=6.00 m( 7m for bends)
Minimum Radius=30 m( until and unless not feasible)
Focus on stability and practical hill cutting.
