It is January 1st, 2022 and a large transport truck hit a through truss bridge. The bridge is located over a major highway with no alternate detour. The transportation maintenance branch sent photos to you as a EIT as soon as they were aware of the incident.
It can be observed from the photos that a diagonal truss member has been significantly deformed and a gusset plate has been fully damaged. The gusset plate connects the diagonal truss member to the bottom chord. In addition, the guiderail has been partially damaged up to the connection with the bridge.
Please write a memo to your project manager with your recommendations on the steps to take to address the immediate public safety caused by this incident.
Scenario 2
You are inspecting a highway construction project. You will be assigned a vehicle to travel to and from the project and for use on the project. You will also be using a nuclear densometer. What would you do to ensure your own safety prior to departure and on the job?
