Licensed Colorado Civil / Geotechnical / Road Engineer for Driveway Design
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
The primary task will be designing a private driveway for a site.
I'm seeking a Civil Engineer or Geotechnical Engineer or Road Engineer licensed in Colorado for a private driveway design for a small commercial project.
The County requires the private driveway design be Stamped & Signed off by a Colorado State Licensed Engineer.
The driveway is to support a truck with a HS-20 axel configuration weighing 80,000 pounds. The driveway surface will either be gravel or paved with asphalt, so I need both designs as we are approved to use gravel; however, we may upgrade to asphalt. The County Road Standards Manual provides minimum design criteria for gravel and for asphalt and I already have a Soils Report. I can provide all the pertinent information from the Road Standards Manual to meet minimum requirements.
Of course there may be some cases where safety or functionality of a gravel road is compromised by unstable geology, large stream crossings, wetlands, or other complicated drainage issues. None of these complications exist at the proposed driveway. If any of these complications existed, they would be noted in the drainage report or the classification of wetlands report... which we were required to perform both.
Note that the Private Road Manual explains that an Engineered design may be required for a Private Driveway only when complicated issues are present that impact safety and functionality… there are no complicating issues at the site. However, the County is requesting the driveway design be signed-off by an Engineer and we are just going to comply if we can find someone to help us out on this, as an appeal to their request would take time to navigate through the bureaucracy.
If we use gravel for the driveway, we still need to construct the access apron using asphalt or concrete; therefore, we will need the apron design for both asphalt and concrete. If the internal driveway ends up being gravel, we will use concrete for the apron. If we pave the internal driveway, we will pave the apron since the paving equipment will already be there.
