Certified Code Upgrade Assessment
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
My Sunnyvale, CA home—originally built in 1957—was destroyed by a fire in July 2020 and rebuilt as a two-story structure, completed July 2025. To recover the costs of mandatory upgrades, my insurer requires a formal, certified Code Upgrade assessment that compares today’s requirements with the standards in effect when the house was first erected.
I’m open to working with either a licensed California contractor or a professional engineer. You’ll need to visit the property, study all permits and plans, and deliver a stamped report that my insurance adjuster will accept.
The assessment must address, at minimum:
• Structural integrity, seismic safety, and any retrofitting mandates
• Electrical system code compliance
• Plumbing and HVAC standards
• Current building-code changes (CBC 2022, CALGreen, Title 24 energy)
• Energy-efficiency measures
• Accessibility provisions
• Environmental and asbestos safety considerations
• Soil analysis or related geotechnical requirements
Deliverables
1. On-site inspection with photographic documentation
2. Detailed written report citing relevant code sections and their effective dates
3. Clear cost breakdown—or percentage uplift—attributable solely to code-mandated upgrades
4. Professional stamp, signature, and contact details suitable for insurance submission
