Versatile Tractor PTO-Powered Generator Design
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I'm seeking a skilled engineer to design a generator set powered by a 40 hp 1500 max rpm tractor's PTO. The design must be versatile, providing both DC for SMAW welding (9-48V, 10-500A) and AC power (15KW, 120 or 240V) for appliances.
Required Features:
- Utilization of an auto alternator or generator.
- 12V or 24V battery system.
- Digital or analog inverter
- Some form of rheostat control for controlling welding amperage
- Considerations for grounding and circuit breakers.
- Peak performance at optimal rpms and comprehensive voltage regulation.
- Off the shelf components highly desirable, so equipment specifications are more important than exact sourcing
- Other than specifications for safe spacing of components, mechanical design is not required.
Safety Features:
- Overload/overcharge protection.
- Short circuit protection.
Operator should be able to switch between either welding or AC power with ease. Experience with mechanical engineering and understanding of power systems is crucial. Knowledge of safety standards for generator sets is desired.
Example of an existing design included.
