Smart Lead-Acid Battery Charger Design

Job ID: 39608539

Budget: $10 – $30 USD

Project Proposal: Design and Development of a 12V, 30A Smart Lead-Acid Battery Charger
Project Objective:
The primary goal of this project is to design, develop, and manufacture a robust and intelligent battery charger for 12V lead-acid batteries. The charger must be capable of delivering up to 30 Amperes and should be compatible with a wide range of battery capacities (50Ah to 210Ah). The final product should be safe, efficient, and fully automatic.

Key Features and Functional Requirements:
1. Smart Charging (Multi-Stage Charging): The charger must not be a simple power supply. It should implement an intelligent multi-stage charging algorithm to ensure battery health and longevity.
o Stage 1: Bulk Charge: Charges the battery at a constant maximum current (up to 30A) until the battery voltage reaches a specific level (e.g., 14.4V).
o Stage 2: Absorption Charge: After the bulk stage, the charger will hold the voltage constant (e.g., 14.4V) and the current will gradually decrease as the battery tops up.
o Stage 3: Float/Maintenance Charge: Once the battery is fully charged, the voltage will be reduced to a lower level (e.g., 13.6V) to keep it topped up without overcharging.
2. Automatic Current Adjustment: The charger should intelligently detect the battery's state of charge and size, and automatically provide the appropriate charging current. It should deliver high current to a deeply discharged battery and lower current as it gets closer to full.
3. Automatic Cut-off: The charger must automatically switch to float/maintenance mode once the battery is 100% charged, preventing overcharging and damage.
4. Comprehensive Safety Protections: The unit must be equipped with the following safety features:
o Reverse Polarity Protection: Prevents damage to the charger and battery if the clamps are connected incorrectly.
o Short Circuit Protection: Protects the charger if the output clamps touch each other.
o Over-Voltage Protection: Protects the battery from excessively high charging voltage.
o Over-Current Protection: Ensures the charger does not deliver more than its rated 30A current.
o Over-Temperature Protection: The charger should have a built-in sensor to monitor its internal temperature and reduce power or shut down if it gets too hot.
5. User Interface (LED Indicators): Simple and clear LED indicators to show the charger's status:
o Red LED: Charging in progress / Fault.
o Green LED: Battery Fully Charged / Float Mode.
o Power ON LED.
6. Cooling System: An active cooling system (e.g., a temperature-controlled fan) is mandatory to manage the heat generated during high-current (30A) operation.
7. Auto DC out Put:
If battery is charging or Ac mode then DC output plug by default is passive and like electricity is cut of then connected DC devices like Manual DC fan or light etc is auto on
