Residential Sub-Panel Load Calculation
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I have a detached structure that must pass plan review, and the city has asked for a complete electrical package within one week of my sending you the drawings and appliance list. The service is 120/240 V split-phase, fed from an existing 200 A main panel in the house.
Here’s what the city specifically requires and what your submittal must cover:
• A full panel schedule for the new sub-panel, including a main breaker.
• Feeder conductor and breaker sizing from the 200 A main panel to the sub-panel.
• Total load calculation for the main panel that now has to include the new loads.
• Confirmation of the appropriate ampere rating for the sub-panel (I expect 100 A but need your professional calculation).
• Clear identification of all connected loads: lighting and general-use receptacles, HVAC equipment, washer/dryer, and a future electric cooktop and microwave. These future items should be labeled as future use but need to be included in all calculations and the schedule.
Please return stamped calculations (if you carry a PE or equivalent), the completed panel schedule in both PDF and an editable format, and a concise narrative explaining assumptions and NEC articles used. Timing is tight, so accuracy and prompt communication are essential; I will respond quickly to provide any missing information you request.
