Electret Microphone Pre-Amplifier
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
Title: Electret Microphone Pre-Amplifier Design
Project Description:
Design and implement a pre-amplifier circuit for an electret microphone to amplify its output signal to the "line in" level, suitable for most audio equipment. The pre-amplifier should meet specific performance criteria in terms of frequency response, output load, output voltage, harmonic distortion, SNR, power supply, battery life, and parts cost. The design should be simulated and tested using LTspice.
Requirements:
Design a pre-amplifier circuit for an electret microphone using LTspice.
Meet the following performance specifications:
a. Frequency response: 20 Hz – 20 kHz (-3 dB bandwidth)
b. Output load: 1 kΩ - 10 kΩ (resistance from output to ground)
c. Output voltage: 2.5 V peak-to-peak (with a 50 mV peak input at 1 kHz)
d. Harmonic distortion: Largest harmonic more than 45 dB below the fundamental frequency (measured with a 1 kHz sine wave input at 50 mV peak)
e. SNR: ≥95 dB (27 deg K, noise in 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a 1 kHz sine wave at 50 mV peak)
f. Power supply: Two 1200 mAh AAA batteries (each battery produces 1.5 V)
g. Battery life: >600 hours
h. Parts cost: No specific requirement, but lower is better
Provide a detailed report on the design process, including:
a. Design approach and rationale
b. Calculations used in the design
c. Performance evaluation, including plots demonstrating compliance with each specification
d. Discussion of the results, any challenges faced, and potential improvements
Deliverables:
a. LTspice design file
b. Detailed report on the design process and performance evaluation
Timeline: Please provide an estimated completion date for the project.
Please ensure that you have experience with LTspice and audio circuit design. If you have any questions or need clarification on the project requirements, do not hesitate to ask.
