Custom 6-Port PoE Ethernet Switch Design
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
I need an experienced hardware designer to turn my concept for a six-port, gigabit-speed Ethernet switch into a complete, production-ready design. 3 of 6 channel must deliver up to 70 W of IEEE-compliant PoE, other 3 must deliver up to 20 W and, instead of the usual RJ45 jacks, I want every data-plus-power line brought out on JST-GH connectors.
Mechanical requirements
• Board must be as smaller as possible with 4 holes M3 at the corners.
Electrical highlights
• True gigabit switching performance across all six ports, with robust QoS and VLAN support.
• 70 W continuous PoE available on 3 of 6 ports, other 3 ports 20 W.
• 50V output voltage for POE
• Input-voltage capability: 10-26V
• Protection for reverse polarity, surge, and hot-swap events is essential.
What I expect from you
1. Schematics showing switch silicon, PoE controllers, DC-DC stages, magnetics, and protection.
2. A multi-layer PCB layout that respects impedance control, thermal relief for the power stages, and the front-panel JST-GH footprint.
3. Fully populated BOM with sourcing notes.
4. Firmware or register scripts needed to bring up the switch IC and enable PoE PSE features.
5. A brief bring-up guide and test plan demonstrating gigabit throughput, PoE load testing to 70 W per port, and thermal validation.
I’m ready to answer questions quickly, review iterations, and approve milestones as we move from concept to release files. If you have prior experience with high-power PoE or custom connector configurations, that will put you at the top of the list.
