Micro Algae Processing: A Scientific Review
Budget: $3,000 – $5,000 AUD
I'm seeking an individual with a robust background in seaweed science, analytical or chemical engineering to conduct a literature review on the chemical structure, composition and, most importantly, processing methods of micro and macro algae. Ideal candidates will have experience in the area of marine biology or biotechnology, with a special focus on algae composition and nutritional composition.
Key objectives include:
- Defining the chemical structure and proximate composition of micro and macro algae
- Identify the composition of micro and macro algae (cellulose, hemicellulose, fucoidan, oligosaccharides, proteins, oils, polyphenols)
- Investigating both traditional and innovative processing methods of processing micro and macro algae to produce stable pastes or dried powdered
The end goal is to gain insight into all aspects related to the composition and processing of micro algae, from initial harvesting to mechanical processing to final use in food or cosmetic product. Additionally, to understand the process and unit operation associated with milling and drying comparing traditional methods versus newer techniques. in addition, a small market analysis of the size of the micro / macro algae (seaweed) industry and the uses of these ingredients in finished products. Exceptional attention to detail and strong written communication skills are required, as the findings will be used in a larger research study.
