Hydro & Pneumatic Cyclone Sizing

Job ID: 40136014

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I’m putting together a practical sizing workbook for both hydro-cyclones and pneumatic cyclones used in solid-liquid separation within a mining and minerals environment. The goal is a clear, engineer-friendly spreadsheet (Excel or Google Sheets) that automatically calculates all the critical dimensions and performance metrics once the basic feed data is entered.

Key design drivers
• Duty: solid-liquid separation of slurry streams coming from grinding circuits and dewatering stages.
• Sector specifics: abrasive, high-solids mining slurries—so wear considerations, pressure limits and typical flow/solids ranges for concentrators must be embedded.
• Standards: the equations, correction factors and nomenclature have to align with recognised international references (ISO, ANSI, CEMA or equivalent hydrodynamic design guidelines).

What I’m expecting from you
1. A fully functional sizing sheet for each cyclone type (tabs are fine) with clearly labelled input cells, locked formula areas, and concise result sections showing diameter, inlet/outlet dimensions, cone angle, vortex finder, pressure drop and expected separation cut size (d50).
2. Built-in unit flexibility (metric/imperial toggle).
3. Brief design notes inside the file that cite the international standard or published correlations used for every main calculation.
4. A short PDF or slide deck walking through one worked example so I can validate the sheet on my side.

Successful delivery is the spreadsheet(s) plus the explanatory notes package; once I can reproduce the worked example and cross-check against my plant data, the project is complete. If you’ve previously worked on cyclone design in the minerals industry, let me know—real-world insight will help refine the assumptions fast.
