Distillation and Absorption
Budget: £10 – £60 GBP
Design a packed bed absorption column to recover ethanol contained in a CO2- rich gaseous stream coming from fermentation operations. You have been asked to consider Sulzer NeXRing random packing for the design using the information provided in the accompanying product brochure. You must select the most appropriate size of NeXRing in terms of loadings, column dimensions, pressure drop and mass-transfer results.
Several design parameters need to be determined including column diameter (D), packing height (Z), overall mass-transfer coefficient (KGa) and gas pressure drop (P/Z), as well as the overall number of gas-phase transfer units (NOG) and overall height of a gas-phase transfer unit (HOG).
You must analyse the separation to decide which packing configuration provides the most suitable column dimensions (tower diameter and packing height) as well as optimising the mass-transfer coefficient for this application, without exceeding the maximum allowable pressure drop.
More details will be sent privately
