Original Character Illustration
Budget: $15 – $25 CAD
I’m looking for an illustrator to help develop a character for a new business I am creating. The character will live on the web and social media (primarily FB, INST & TikTok).
The mission of the business is to help people live their best life. This will be done by sharing philosophies and teachings that will inspire people to see that living their best life is possible. It will promote various practices, tools, and habits that will help people more effectively navigate all of the challenges they face in life. The result being that people will see a clear path toward living a happier, more fulfilling life and be motivated to take action to advance their goals.
The character I want your help developing will be the face of the brand and the voice through which all of the teachings and practices are shared. It will be a catalyst for the brand and central to its mission.
At some point, I will be selling merchandise that incorporates the character as it will be one of the ways I monetize the business. As such, I will need to own the copyright for the character once the project has been completed. Please confirm you understand this requirement in your proposal.
About the Character:
* I’d like the character to be friendly and maybe a little whimsical or quirky. The character should make you smile, laugh, or think.
* The character is more of a seeker and steward of what he shares. He isn’t perfect and doesn’t know it all. He’s on a similar journey and shares the useful stuff he’s learned along the way.
* The character should be gender-agnostic and appeal equally to all genders.
* My audience is primarily adults. While the character can be simple, it shouldn’t be too juvenile.
* I’ve attached a mood board with a broad range of character concepts I like. Some are 3D and some are off brand as far as facial expressions go. The intent is to provide you with some initial perspective.
* There are other people doing similar things with characters but most fall into the “cute/cuddly/blob” category. Here are a few that skew in this direction. I’d like to stay away from this approach.

Requirements:
* The character must be adaptable to various activities, poses, hand gestures, and facial expressions.
* The character should be 2D and work in both black and white and color.
* The character should be fairly simple to facilitate basic animations and adaptability to different situations.
* It would be a nice touch (though not mandatory) if there was some subliminal element in the design that ties back to the concept of growth, discovery, learning, etc., such as a subtle question mark incorporated somewhere in the character's form.
* The character must be 100% original and not AI-generated or derivative of an existing character.
Project Milestones:
1. Ideation - I'd like to get your interpretation of the character elements I've outlined above. This could be best accomplished with a mood board that reflects your ideas for potential character directions.
2. Exploration - Based on our review of the mood board, I'd like you to develop 2 - 3 initial concepts in whatever format you prefer, whether pencil sketches or digital illustrations.
3. Full Mock-Up - Based on the initial concepts, I'd like to see the character come to life in a couple of use cases. We can discuss these further once we reach this phase.
4. Character Assets - Once we settle on a final character, I’d like to have a number of poses/expressions that I can use to support the various types of content I’ll be sharing.
If this sounds like a fun and interesting project, I’d love to have you submit a proposal. It can either be a fixed price for the whole project or you can price out each milestone separately.
