Cartoonish Animal Storybook Illustrator
Budget: £750 – £1,500 GBP
My children’s picture book follows a real animal protagonist, and the charm of the story hinges on authentic yet playful artwork. I need a skilled illustrator who can study reference photos of the species and translate its true anatomy, markings, and personality into warm, cartoonish scenes that will delight young readers without drifting into generic fantasy.
The project spans 10–20 full-colour illustrations, all set in outdoor nature and city environments—think canals, tall buildings, riversides—matching the text I’ll provide for each spread. I’m happy to collaborate on rough storyboards, but I rely on your creative eye for composition, character expression, and vibrant, child-friendly colour palettes.
Important requirements
• Every piece must be hand-drawn or digitally painted from scratch—no AI-generated, stock, or heavily referenced assets.
• Consistent style, scale, and colour treatment across all pages.
• Final files delivered as layered PSD or high-resolution PNG (300 dpi, CMYK) ready for print and e-book formatting.
Acceptance criteria
1. Rough pencil/thumbnail concepts for approval before colouring.
2. Two feedback rounds per illustration.
3. Final artwork matches agreed dimensions and passes a basic reverse-image search for originality.
If you love bringing real animals to life in a whimsical way and can commit to these standards, please share a link to your portfolio featuring similar work and note your estimated timeline for the full set.
