Chapter-Book Kids Safety Illustrations
Budget: $1,500 – $3,000 USD
I’m assembling a middle-grade safety guide called “What Would Grandma Do… Or Say?” and I need a gifted illustrator who works comfortably in a chapter-book style. The book speaks to 8- to 14-year-olds in a warm but no-nonsense grandmother’s voice, so the art has to feel grounded, relatable and quietly reassuring—never cartoon-cute or fantasy-bright.
Scope of work
• 14 interior illustrations, each depicting a specific everyday setting—elevators, parking lots, hotel corridors, bedrooms and similar spaces—where a safety lesson unfolds.
• 1 eye-catching cover that matches the interior style and clearly signals “practical safety advice” without looking preachy or frightening.
Visual tone & focus
Realistic proportions and detail closer to editorial or classic chapter-book covers than picture-book softness. Every scene should immediately read as a familiar place a child might walk through, with the key safety element front and center yet woven naturally into the environment. Warm lighting, confident body language and a caring atmosphere are essential; dramatic shadows or horror cues are not.
