Experienced Mechanical Engineer: Marine ROV Prototype Build
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with strong hands-on manufacturing and assembly skills to construct a first-article Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) prototype for a marine application. This project requires translating our existing SOLIDWORKS models, detailed mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and Bill of Materials (BOM) into reliable physical hardware.
High-Level Role: Hands-On Prototype Lead
You will serve as the dedicated hands-on mechanical lead for this prototype build. Your core responsibility is to take our complete engineering design package and drive the process from design review through to final electro-mechanical integration. This includes leveraging your own qualified shop resources or trusted vendors, coordinating high-precision fabrication, and meticulously overseeing the final assembly and basic system integration.
Scope of Work (High-Level)
* Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Review our CAD and 2D drawings specifically for DFM, providing expert feedback tailored for underwater pressure vessels and marine ruggedization.
* Fabrication Coordination: Coordinate or personally perform CNC machining and fabrication of all custom mechanical components, including:
* Pressure-rated hull sections, end caps, and penetrator bulkheads.
* Structural frames, brackets, and mounting hardware for thrusters, sonars, and internal modules.
* Custom enclosures/brackets for cameras, lights, and external sensors.
* Internal battery trays, electronics mounting plates, and thermal management hardware.
* Precision Assembly: Oversee or perform the complete mechanical assembly of a single, fully functional ROV prototype set.
* Hydrostatic Testing Support: Support pressure and leak testing of critical pressure housings (either directly using your own facilities or coordinating with a suitable test facility).
* Basic Electro-Mechanical Integration: Perform the preliminary integration of customer-supplied electronics and harness:
* Mounting modules securely onto internal trays.
* Meticulously routing, securing, and strain-relieving internal harnesses.
* Terminating industry-standard subsea connectors/cable glands per our wiring diagrams.
* Performing basic continuity and sanity checks (this role excludes firmware/software loading or functional testing).
We Will Provide
* 3D CAD models (SOLIDWORKS) and comprehensive 2D manufacturing drawings.
* Detailed wiring diagrams and complete connector pinouts.
* BOM specifying all required materials (e.g., marine-grade aluminum, acetal, PEEK) and key COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) components.
* A formal Request for Quotation (RFQ) / Statement of Work (SOW) package upon NDA execution.
✅ What We’re Looking For
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, demonstrable expertise.
* Proven, hands-on experience transitioning complex electro-mechanical designs from CAD/Drawings to functioning ruggedized prototypes.
* Essential Experience: Prior work with pressure-rated, subsea, ROV, AUV, or other marine robotic hardware is highly preferred.
* Reliable Resources: Access to, or a close, proven collaboration with reliable, precision fabrication resources (CNC machining, specialized coatings, welding, etc.).
* Prototype Mindset: Comfort operating in a fast-paced, quick-turn environment that values practical results and clear, direct communication.
* Logistics: Ability to sign a mutual Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and ship the finished prototype to the USA.
