Prototype Movement Mechanic Reconfiguration and Making it Far More Durable

I’m refining a physical product prototype whose movement mechanism isn 't ideall how I'd like it to be. it is showing potential for quick wear and tear faster than it should. I need a mechanical specialist to rethink the way this assembly works so it performs smoothly every time and holds up to prolonged use.

You’ll start by reviewing my current CAD (SolidWorks native files and STEP) plus a short video of the prototype in action. From there, analyse the movement path, offer alternate one-hand movement to get the product to collapse and stay put, level of tolerance, and material choices to pinpoint exactly why the function is inconsistent and where durability is being lost. Once the weak spots are clear, propose and implement design tweaks—be that altered clearances, different bearings, updated geometry, or smarter materials—to eliminate binding and extend life.

Deliverables
• Updated 3D CAD and 2D manufacturing drawings for the movement assembly
• Concise design memo detailing each change and its impact on functionality and durability
• Basic assembly and adjustment notes so the workshop can build and test the next iteration

Acceptance criterion: after your revisions the mechanism must cycle at least 1,000 times without sticking or visible wear and feel noticeably smoother than the current unit.
