Project: Design a Cam-Sync Integration Using a Distributor Drive

I’m looking for an experienced mechanical designer to create a clean, manufacturable solution for generating a cam-position (home) signal for an aftermarket ECU on an engine that originally used a distributor-based ignition system. The distributor will no longer handle spark; it will simply serve as a cam-speed mechanical drive.

The goal is to integrate an OEM-style cam-sync sensor and its trigger wheel into the distributor location. This involves adapting an existing sensor/trigger assembly to be driven by the distributor shaft, and designing any necessary components such as an adapter sleeve, trigger mounting interface, or sensor bracket. The objective is to achieve a stable, single-pulse cam sync per engine cycle with proper alignment, rigidity, and air gap.

You should be comfortable with tone wheels, Hall or optical sensors, distributor mechanisms, and basic engine timing conventions. The task does not include any ECU wiring or calibration — only the mechanical packaging and integration of the sensor and trigger.

I will provide measurements, photos, and reference parts as needed. The final output should include 2D/3D CAD ready for machining or fabrication, with appropriate tolerances and considerations for concentricity, vibration resistance, and serviceability.

Experience with motorsport sensor integrations, distributor conversions, or timing component adaptations is a strong plus.
