Piston and Bumper Work for Patented Pneumatic Nail Gun Prototype
Budget: $60 – $0 NZD
I am looking for a skilled professional Engineer / Industrial Designer who can assist me with custom designing and fabricating the piston and bumper for my patented pneumatic nail gun prototype.
Specific requirements include:
- Custom design and fabrication of both the piston and bumper
- Use of high-quality materials (no specific material preference)
- The project should be completed within 4-6 weeks.
Have a look at our website and it will give you a brief understanding of what we have invented. But basically, a pneumatic nail gun piston with ports through it that are sealed by an o-ring. When the piston drives the nail home, the first part of the piston with a groove for this sealing o-ring reaches a fluted area and with air pressure from behind the piston the o-ring is driven slightly out of its groove, allowing a small amount of air from behind to be transferred to the front of the piston as a small pocket of high pressure air. At this time the trigger of the nail gun (all nail guns have this feature) is timed to open an exhaust at the rear of the gun. Air behind the piston is now released causing a pressure imbalance between front and back. Because of this, there is now higher pressure in the front and lower pressure in the back of the piston, therefore the o-ring closes on its own accord and the piston is returned to its starting position. We have proven prototypes but want someone to work on an existing nail gun (we will provide this at no cost) and change the cylinder and piston and front bumper to our own design.
There is only modification to the front plate to open exhaust ports there (we exhaust out the front while the piston is driving - conventional guns exhaust out the side of their cylinder into the body of the gun). Also the cylinder would have to be replaced, a piston built with ports and a new bumper.
Although we have a lot of experience on this, we are looking for someone not only to build this but to offer their own innovative ideas. For example, we may have an issue with the o-ring sealing the air pressure in the piston, lifting under pressure while on its driving stroke and causing friction, therefore slowing the driving stroke down (don't worry - the piston is still travelling in its short distance at 150mpg (200kph). Things happen very quickly.
