Historic Addition Roofline Design -- 2

Job ID: 39797471

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I am extending a century-old brick residence and need an architect or designer who can re-imagine the roofline for the new living-space wing. The existing house carries a standing-seam metal roof, and I would like the addition to sit comfortably beside it while signalling a subtle, contemporary update. A low-slope or shed profile is strongly preferred, yet the finished silhouette still has to read as part of the original home rather than an obvious bolt-on.

Here’s what will guide the work:
• harmony with the red-brick massing, mortar lines, and existing metal roofing
• thoughtful transitions where the new rafters meet old, avoiding awkward step-backs or flashing nightmares
• proportion and rhythm that respect the historic character even as the pitch is relaxed for a more modern feel

Because the new structure is full-time living space, insulation thickness, daylighting potential, and long-term maintenance must factor into your concept. I’ll need scaled roof plans, front and side elevation studies, and either a SketchUp or Revit model so I can walk the homeowners through sightlines and material intersections. If you prefer AutoCAD for drafting, that’s fine as long as a 3-D viewer file accompanies the sheets.

Deliverables will be considered complete once:
1. the proposed roof ties cleanly into the existing metal system without raising ridge height above the historic section,
2. both 2-D drawings and the 3-D model clearly illustrate flashing, fascia, and gutter solutions, and
3. the homeowners agree the scheme feels modern yet period-appropriate.

Please share a sample project—ideally a historic renovation or addition—when you reply so I can gauge fit. I’m ready to move forward as soon as the right concept emerges.
