Freelance Design Engineer Job Description: Do you have a passion for RC vehicles!? Do you build scalers or crawlers? Do you have a background in Mechanical Engineering and like to design your own parts?! If so, WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOU! At RC4WD Inc., we are dedicated to designing, manufacturing and selling high quality RC scale vehicles and products that meet the diverse needs of our customers. We are currently seeking a Freelance Design Engineer in our Visalia, California location but are willing to work with someone remotely if this person meets the skill set we are looking for. The ideal candidate will have a Mechanical Engineering degree, 3-5 years or relevant experience and a passion for radio control products. Role: Design for manufacturing scale bodies for hobby grade remote control trucks. This includes source data gathering from images, online diagrams and existing renders. CAD will need to be generated so the files can be used directly for manufacturing. Responsibilities: Create 3d models that are designed for manufacturing Conduct product, design & process reviews. Present to senior management on issues and work plan Generate CAD collateral based on sources; images, 3d models, online diagrams and existing renders Conducting and/or using research on user experience and needs, current market trends and general functionality Determining whether a design solution is user-friendly, cost-effective and environmentally friendly Creating multiple iterations of design prototypes using computer-aided design tools Evaluating design solutions against industry standards and regulations Comprehensive understanding of product structure, materials and processing technology Preferred Qualifications: Five plus years as a hobbyist in radio controlled cars and trucks Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science or relevant work experience More than three years of applicable design and engineering experience or equivalent job experience Be self motivated and ability to adapt quickly to changing design requirements Have a keen eye for detail and ability to turn full size designs into scale functional models Basic Qualifications: Expert-level computer skills in requisite design and engineering toolsets Knowledge and use of design software to create 2D and 3D drawings Portray a strong sense of integrity with effective communication skills Demonstrates professionalism with ability to work well in both group and individual settings Schedule time efficiently to provide cost-effective job performance. Initiate and respond to all related job tasks in a timely manner. Assume responsibility for own actions Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills Experience: Mechanical Engineering: 3 year (Preferred) Design: 3 year (Preferred)
