CNC Machine Design for Metal Milling – Project Completion Phase
Budget: €250 – €750 EUR
Project Overview:
We are seeking an experienced mechanical engineer or CNC specialist to take over, review, correct, and complete the development of a medium-sized CNC milling machine, bringing it to production-ready status.
An initial gantry-style machine design is available as a STEP file but contains structural and design flaws and is currently not suitable for manufacturing.
The goal is to finalize the design, generate production-ready 2D drawings with tolerances, create a complete bill of materials (BOM), and provide high-quality 3D renderings and a short animation for marketing and website use.
Current Status:
- The 3D model is provided in both STEP and SolidWorks formats
- Structural and dimensional inconsistencies need correction
- The tool changer and machine enclosure are partially incomplete
- Initial renderings are available but not finalized
Note:
Since we do not have access to SolidWorks, we are unable to verify the functionality of the assemblies in the native format. Full review, validation, and correction will be part of your responsibilities.
Scope of Work:
- Review and optimization of the current design
- Ensure dimensional accuracy and structural stability
- Completion of the design, including:
- Machine enclosure including top cover
- Integration of a tool changer for approx. 30 tools
- Cable routing and electrical component placement
- Deliverables:
- Production-ready assembly and part drawings with tolerances
- Complete bill of materials (BOM)
- High-quality 3D renderings (for website and marketing)
- Short animation showing machine functionality
Target Machine Specifications:
- Worktable: 600 x 500 mm (must be updated in the drawings)
- Travel (minimum): X600 / Y500 / Z400 mm (must be updated in the drawings)
- Spindle: 8.5 kW, water-cooled
- Axis drives: 1.2 – 1.6 kW servo motors
- Power supply: 380V
- Tool changer: Magazine for approx. 30 tools
- Guide system: Linear guides & ball screws with centralized lubrication
- Tool cooling: Flood coolant (KSS) or minimum quantity lubrication (MQL)
- Cooling water tank with integrated circulation pump for spindle cooling
- Fume extraction system
- Chip tray drawer beneath the machine bed
- Integration of control cabinet and CNC system must be considered
Requirements:
- Proven experience in CNC machine design
- Strong knowledge of machining steel and aluminum
- Experience with medium-sized gantry-style CNC machines
- Ability to produce professional manufacturing documentation (BOM, drawings)
- Experience with realistic 3D renderings and animation
- Degree in mechanical engineering or a related field
- Willingness to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) prior to receiving files
