Battery door mechanism for iPod classic
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
More project details in attachments. The deliverables from this challenge will be 3D CAD and a 12-14 page Powerpoint (or Keynote) presentation showing the evolution of your designs to solve the design brief. The presentation should tell the story of your process of selecting your final two designs, especially the one you selected as your preference. Apply as much technical/material knowledge and analysis as you can into the test with the goal of a final design that will work reliably and is manufacturable.
a. Concept sketches
- Provide inspiration list. Remember, there is no shame in 'benchmark' researching and borrowing/improving upon existing designs. Make sure you do not underestimate the importance of this step.
- Show your concepts for mechanisms and architectures that achieve the design goals
b. Decision tree
- Make clear any assumptions you may have made and show us your criteria for down-selecting your concepts.
- Let us know which of the two is your preference and why.
c. Initial technical calculations
d. Slides showing the 3D CAD (screenshots) with highlights of the mechanisms and relevant details. I would suggest to include:
- A few clear cross section views of the important mechanism structure, showing the critical surfaces/features.
- Views and cross-sections that show the mechanism in its relevant states to illustrate how the mechanism functions
e. FEA (if any) for critical parts or use cases
f. Create a Bill of Materials for each mechanism: list of parts, materials, and rough cost estimate.
