Audio archive application needs .NET MAUI user interface and port to Mac

Job ID: 34760245

Budget: $5,000 – $10,000 NZD

Sound Explorers Audio Archive is a new open source Windows application that facilitates the archiving of audio recordings, together with associated documentation and videos. We are in the process of applying for funding to
build a web interface to provide access to the recordings and their documentation and
port the existing application to macOS.

For b), we wish to engage the services of a Mac Developer.

About the Task

The application is written in C# (version 10) for .NET 6.0. The user interface is written with the Windows Forms API, which prevents the application from being run on operating systems other than Windows. So, to allow the application to run on both Windows and macOS, we plan to convert the user interface to .NET MAUI. As Windows Forms does not support the Model-View-View Model design pattern (MVVM), the code currently conforms to the similar Model-View-Controller design pattern. So the View (Windows Forms) and Controller layers need to be rewritten as View (.NET MAUI) and View Model. Changes to the Model layer are expected to be minimal.

For screenshots of the existing application and notes on converting the UI to MAUI, see the attachment. For the source code, a sample database, the Windows installer and a ReaMe providing an architectural overview, see https://github.com/SoundExplorers/SoundExplorers.

About You

.NET MAUI is very new, but Xamarin.Forms is its predecessor. So, if you are not experienced with .NET MAUI, experience developing Xamarin.Forms applications to run on macOS via Mac Catalyst will be fine. It will be an advantage if you have a Windows PC as well as a Mac.

Timeframes

The deadline for our application to the New Zealand government for funding is 18th October 2022. If successful, we expect to start development work in early 2023, with the whole project delivered within a year.

What You Need to Do to Apply

As part of the application for funding, we need to budget for the port to Mac. We will be happy to pay you an hourly rate, but we will need to specify a cap on the total. So please provide an estimate of how many hours will be involved and how much it would cost. We need that information by 11th October 2022 at the latest, in order to incorporate it into our funding application.
