compile C library on my Windows Desktop system

Hi,
I am an experienced developer in several programming languages and am starting to develop on a Windows system now. This is completely new to me, so I'm looking for someone who's VERY experienced and can handhold me with the following:
- compile an old version of the openSSL library on my system (version 0.9.8h to be exact, which I have already downloaded)
- create (or just copy/paste) and compile a small C program with this library to show it works
I need you to compile with MinGW GCC. I'm using Visual Studio Code as IDE, but am open to using something else if you think of something better.
During the whole process I will give you access over screenshare so we can discuss what you're doing and I learn from it. I'll be happy to send you the openSSL tarball before of course if you like to try it on your desktop first.
