Spartan 3 FPGA project

I have an FPGA board, SPARTAN 3 and I require a project in C++ language that allows sending and receiving data from/to LEDs and switches. The C++ project must be simple without calls to advanced libraries, understandable and with comments for each section of the program; The idea is that I can understand and add my own logic later.
