Kerlink Wirnet Station Gateway Integration with Huawei K5150 / K5160 4G USB Stick -- 2

Job ID: 37952652

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

We have some old Kerlink Wirnet Station LoRaWAN Gateways (https://www.thethingsindustries.com/docs/gateways/models/kerlinkwirnetstation/) that are connected to our servers with their internal 2G/3G modems for mobile Internet connection. 3G is being phased out in Europe, 2G is not. But 2G (more precisely GPRS) is sometimes not fast enough and its bandwidth is even lower in crowded cities. Therefore, we need to change the backhaul connection of our gateways to 4G mobile Internet. There are two approaches to this: 1) using an external 4G modem that has an Ethernet connection (https://teltonika-networks.com/products/gateways/trb140), 2) connect a 4G USB stick to the USB connector of the Kerlink Wirnet Station, like the Huawei K5150 (https://consumer.huawei.com/ie/support/routers/k5150/), or the Huawei K5160 (https://deviceguides.vodafone.co.uk/vodafone/k5160-windows-10/installation/install-usb-modem/).
As we also have some of the aforementioned 4G USB modems, what we are looking for is a solution for the 2) option, that is the integration of the K5150 or the K5160 to the Kerlink Wirnet OS. The solution should be able to handle both public and private APN-s on the 4G USB modems.
Some details about the Kerlink LoRaWAN gateway:
1) It runs a proprietary linux OS that is very old (from year 2016) and unfortunately does not have binaries like usb_modeswitch, ModemManager and NetworkManager,
2) The kernel of the Kerlink gateway is also very old: 3.10.104-3.10.104-klk7
3) Kerlink provided (long ago) both a toolchain and a Docker based environment for cross-compilation of applications.
Based on the above, we look for an individual who has experience in building applications for the Kerlink Wirnet Station gateway, otherwise just learning the environment will consume several days of his/her time (without even starting the task itself).
