Beer Can Counter System with Arduino

As a 70-year-young beginner with Arduino, I'm looking for a simple yet effective beer can counter system. The system should include:
- An LED display to show the count of empty cans.
- An input method utilizing my beginner Arduino project box, rather than complex sensors or RFID tags. A physical button or a simple sensor would be ideal.
- The capability to store the count data for later reference.
