Business Consultant – Strategic Growth & Exit Readiness

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Business Consultant to support the strategic review, development, and value enhancement of our business over the next 5–10 years, with the ultimate goal of preparing for a successful sale. This is a hands-on advisory and implementation support role ideal for someone with proven expertise in business transformation, operational improvement, and exit readiness.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct a full business assessment (current state analysis) to identify strengths, weaknesses, gaps, and opportunities.
Develop a practical roadmap to improve performance, market positioning, and value drivers across operations, finances, systems, and people.
Advise on key focus areas including (but not limited to): process optimization, profitability, marketing strategy, compliance, technology upgrades, and scalability.
Provide guidance on exit planning strategy, valuation drivers, buyer expectations, and due diligence readiness.
Support and monitor the implementation of agreed improvement initiatives.
Liaise with internal and external teams to ensure successful execution of the improvement plan.
Offer regular progress reviews and refine the roadmap as needed.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Proven experience supporting SMEs through growth, business turnaround, or exit preparation (especially in engineering or manufacturing sectors).
Strong understanding of business valuation drivers and due diligence requirements.
Able to think strategically while offering practical, actionable solutions.
Familiar with project-based B2B businesses, especially involving UK/overseas clients and industrial projects.
Skilled in KPI tracking, cost control, organisational planning, and team enablement.
Excellent communicator, highly organised, and self-driven.
