Sloped Yard Shop Building
Budget: $1,500 – $3,000 USD
I'm posting here to test the waters and see if this website works. I need an engineer/architect to design a shop building and outdoor kitchen in my backyard, using antique lumber I already own. The foundation will consist of PT timbers, ground-buried, to support a PT deck.
Requirements:
-Foundation: significant slope (I haven't yet measured), If/when I find someone to work with, I will measure the site and send any particulars you need. I foresee the uprights as PT timbers (8X8 or 10X10; must find source), perhaps with piercing steel rebars and set in concrete if needed, and braced with 4X4 timbers as needed. The floor joists will be dimensional PT lumber per your specifications. Decking will be my lumber, perhaps 2X hickory lumber.
- Roof: Metal on wood purlins over an intersecting gable design where the main room (~10'X14' enclosed shop) will have peak support with Oncenter LVL beam(s) (available at Lowes) to hold rafters, raised tie beams only as needed, and the cross-gable room (~10'X10' or smaller outdoor/screened-in kitchen/garden work space) will have heavy timbers as rafters and steel tie-beams.
- Features: Windows (shop space) for natural light, electrical wiring (not sure I want to include wiring in the design)
- Flooring: Wooden deck
Ideal Skills and Experience:
-Willing to work with DIY construction; I plan to build this structure myself, will need detailed drawings that don't require extensive construction experience to interpret.
-Knowledge of Spartanburg county (SC) code... I assume the code there is either standard or can be readily researched and understood. Your drawings must be found acceptable by the local permitting office.
-Adaptability to design with the materials I can source or that I already possess, e.g. antique pine timbers, cherry 4X8 beams, ~4"steel U-bars
