Pole Barn Workshop Drawing Needed
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I’m putting up a pole-barn style workshop and need a clean, build-ready drawing that a local contractor can follow and submit for permitting. The footprint is 21 ft (length) × 32 ft (Width) × 15ft (finished height). The roof gutters will run along a 21-foot length of the building, and the roof should be sloped across two sides, with a width of 32 ft. I am seeking high clearance inside, so possibly using 2x12s or I-joists for roof rafters might be a cheaper option. I want the building to be 10 feet high at the lowest point.
The building I like would be constructed as follows.
1. The building width (32 feet) runs from North to South. The roof will pitch from the center of this run toward N & S. The length (21 ft) of the building runs East to West.
2. Post frame structure. However, instead of metal siding, I would like to install plywood and vinyl siding to match my house.
3. Concrete pier footings, spaced 8’ across the width (31 ft), but due to the roll-up door requirement, perhaps an LVL beam across the length side on both ends may be helpful. Please suggest.
4. Roof rafters would be solid 2x12s or I-joists, perhaps tied to an LVL beam on a center ridge, and LVL eaves as well. Possibly three 22 ft LVL beams are required for this construction? I am seeking at least 45 lb./sq ft for a roof load capacity. 5 5lbs/sq. ft is included in that number for a future solar panel install.
5. Upon a post pier frame, a 5” floating concrete slab will be poured, with rebar.
6. A metal roof will be installed.
7. 1 12-foot-wide roll-up doors on the North side of 21-foot sides.
8. Two 36” doors towards the Northeast and Southeast sides of 21 ft length.
9. I would like a header spanning at least 12 feet (6 feet on either side from the center of the ridge on the east) to build a custom swing door at least 10 feet high (on the East side of 32 feet). This may require a readjustment of the concrete pier footing.
10. The west side of 32 feet will have no windows or openings.
I want the plan to contain the post spacing, rafter layout and spacing, roof pitch, siding and roofing material callouts, door and window openings, and a concrete slab outline. If you usually work in AutoCAD, Revit, or SketchUp, that’s perfect—export a printable PDF along with the native file so I can make any on-site tweaks.
Accuracy in spans and load calculations is essential, as we see moderate snow here; please apply standard design values for a workshop in that climate zone and note them on the drawing. Once the draft looks good, a single revision round should be enough to lock it down.
