Structural Engineer ‒ Small Modular House Design (Australian Standards)
Project Overview
We are seeking a qualified and experienced Structural Engineer to complete full engineering documentation
for a 60 m² small modular house (plus decks). The project involves a steel-framed structure with subfloor on
stumps. A soil test report is already available to support your design work.
Scope of Work
The engineer will be responsible for preparing complete structural documentation suitable for Australian
building approval, including:
- Full structural frame design and calculations
- Subfloor system design, including steel bearers, joists, and skids
- Stump layout and footing design (using provided soil test results)
- Deck framing design (attached and/or freestanding)
- Roof framing design, including tie-downs and bracing
- Wind load and bracing computations
- Connection details (steel-to-steel and steel-to-timber)
- Preparation of a structural drawing set suitable for building surveyor submission (PDF and DWG preferred)
Compliance Requirements
All design and documentation must comply with Australian Standards and the National Construction Code
(NCC, Class 1A). If the engineer is able to sign off or certify drawings for use in Australia, this is highly
preferred. If not, collaboration with an Australian-registered engineer (already available) can be arranged for
final certification.
Deliverables
- Structural drawings in PDF and editable CAD format (DWG/DXF)
- Calculation sheets and compliance notes
- Brief summary of design assumptions (loads, footing type, wind region, etc.)
Preferred Experience
Demonstrated experience in light steel frame or container/modular housing design
Familiarity with AS 1170, AS 4100, and AS 2870
Experience with Victorian site conditions and NCC Volume 2
About the Client
We are an Australian company developing a range of compliant, transportable container and modular homes
for the Victorian market. You will be working directly with the company owner and design team.
