Seeking a Structural Engineer to review outdoor fireplace build plans
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
We're building an outdoor fireplace. It will have a fireplace insert to properly vent, but will otherwise be constructed from concrete blocks of various sizes.
To enclose the chimney above the fireplace opening, we'll be installing a 48" steel lintel that will rest on the outer blocks (see photo). It will need to then hold the weight of 7 rows of concrete blocks above it as the chimney.
1) Will a steel lintel be sturdy enough to safely hold the weight of the chimney?
2) What size and thickness steel lintel would be best for this job?
