Modern Mini-Shopping Centre Design
Budget: $750 – $1,500 USD
I'm seeking an experienced architect to design a modern mini-shopping centre in an area with only one existing supermarket. The design should be comprehensive, covering both the new building and the surrounding premises.
We are reaching out regarding a new project that we would like your assistance with: designing a mini-shopping centre located in an area where there is currently only one supermarket.

We are looking to develop a comprehensive visual and structural design of the location, including both the new building and the surrounding premises. Your role will involve producing high-quality, illustrative concept drawings and design renderings that reflect the finished product. We’ll also be sharing inspirational material that we’d like you to consider during your process.

The existing building is 1,660 m2 (52m x 32m) and the new building will be the same.

Project Overview
We are planning to construct a commercial building, functioning as a mini-mall or mini-centre.
We want to see two alternatives (A high budget vs low budget):
Project 1:
A two-storey visually appealing and practically structured building. The entire complex must feel modern, inviting, and well-organized—balancing function and aesthetics. Please see the following pictures as insperation, we will comment more on the specifics later:

Design Scope
1. General Site Plan
Please provide illustrative layouts and renderings of the full property.
Include parking lots, entry and exit routes, and clear vehicle flow.
Outline pedestrian pathways, and loading/unloading zones.
The surrounding area should be landscaped or otherwise visually well-integrated with the building.

2. Building Structure
Project 1:
The building is two storeys high. There is a first and second floor.
Construction style will likely be concrete blocks, but we want a strong aesthetic element—preferably with large windows for both natural lighting and visibility inside-out.
The facade should be modern and clean, making the building an inviting and recognizable landmark.

Project 2:
The building is two storeys high. Only one floor. This is a more simple design.

Floor Details
First Floor – Supermarket
This floor will host a fully operational supermarket. Design elements to include:
- A storage area (dry goods and general stock).
- A freezer/refrigerated storage section.
- Well-laid-out shelves and product display areas.
- Checkout points for purchasing goods.
- A logical customer flow from entrance to exit.
- Easy access to parking and shopping trolley stations nearby.
- Possibility of separated zones within the floor (for example: fresh produce, frozen, dry goods).

Second Floor – Rental Units
This floor should allow multiple tenants to rent office, workshop space, hair dressers, resturants, restrooms ect. Please:
- Divide the space into flexible units (different sizes, modular if possible).
- Include shared utilities: restrooms, possible break/lounge area, and a communal reception or lobby if -appropriate.
- Allow for easy customization by future renters.
- Make sure windows and natural lighting are generous to make it an attractive place to work.
- Make space (“an allay”) to easily to walk between the multiple tenants in the building
Feel free to make suggestions and design decisions.
