Minimizing Swaying Wood Carport
I have build a 18' x 18' carport over an existing parking pad. I live in NC so I poured 7; 18" square concrete footers and placed into the cement Simpson Strong-Tie Model #: PB66Z "Cast in Place" bases. I used 7 6x6x11 feet vertical posts (two front, and three along each side and the back. The 6x posts where notched at the top to rest on top 2; 2x12x18 bolted together across the front 18' opening and 1; 2x10x18 across the sides and back. I used 2; 7"x 5'8" lag bolts at each post to attach the boards around the top of the 6x6 posts. The roof is 3/12 pinch with rafters of 2x8x9'6" and horizontal rafter ties 12' long on each rafter set at 2' on center. The sheathing is 19/32" plywood. I am happy to provide an more details needed.
What I need is a structural engineer to tell me:
1. Is this structure sound for all weight bearing issues.
2. How do I prevent swaying that is already apparent. When I push on the 6x6 from the ground, I can create motion in either the side-to-side or front-to-back direction.
