Escape Room Retail Space Replication Architectural Engineer
Budget: $3,000 – $5,000 USD
I own an escape room company where we build automated rooms inside of a shipping container. We have launched our first escape room, the Orion V, as a prototype. I now need to get the work done to make it easy to replicate the original room, also in 40 foot high cube shipping containers. I'm seeking an architectural engineer with experience in designing retail spaces.

The original room was thrown together rather haphazardly and has many strange corners or wasted space. The reconstructed room should contain all the same elements as the original room, but with the following modifications:
Cleaning up unnecessary spaces, wasted corners, extra bevels, etc.
Expand the entrance ‘porch’ area (the space between the doors of the shipping container and the constructed wall) an extra foot to allow for a 3 foot porch space. This is currently a 2 foot space so in effect this means we need to remove one foot of interior space from front to back.
Add a rear porch space, similar to the front porch, with a 3 foot width, also taking this space from the interior space of the escape room
Climate control unit & exit door to go on in rear porch area, no cuts to existing metal box
Pipe heated/cooled air so there is even thermal distribution between room 1 and 2
Redesign full space (loosely following the current layout) such that panels can be precut via CNC router, labeled, and assembled easily.
Design detailed wiring schematics to run necessary power + data to each puzzle location.
Elevate interior flooring to allow for cable runs and to match height of updated space twister puzzle which will stand on 2x4s (3.5 inches from the ground).
Embed wiring lighting to the front and rear porches.
Slightly lower the small puzzle box with a triangular button and the text ‘[AZ]’
Slightly raise the shield switch puzzle box
In order to fit everything in the reduced space, the architect may move or resize some puzzles with approval. The final room should be ~80% similar to the current build in look and feel but should be optimized for utilization of space and for ease of manufacturing (ie. optimized for 8x4’ ¼” plywood CNC cuts).
A note on corner spaces: Currently, there are 4 corners with extra space in them. These house 4 different full size PCs and several other components that run the digital puzzles. I would like to consolidate all 4 PCs into a central location near the middle of the box such that all wiring will run from that PC cluster to the puzzle components. Note that the PC rack cannot straddle the first and second rooms as there needs to be space for the sliding door that separates room one from room two. The PC area should be climate controlled.
The successful freelancer should possess:
Demonstrated experience in retail space design
An ability to work efficiently and accurately in replicating design elements
An understanding of how to optimize a retail space while considering customer flow, lighting, and merchandise placement
Subsequent milestones could include:
Scheduling a kickoff meeting to discuss open questions
Crafting a successful proposal on how to replicate the given space design
Producing detailed and concise design plans for the replicated spaces
Offering support throughout the construction and implementation process
Please provide examples of previous work in retail space design, including room replication where possible, in your proposal. As this is a significant project, we appreciate thoroughness and attention to detail.
