Embodied Carbon Research in Construction
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
My research is focused on reviewing available tools (particularly free or low cost tools focused on the United Kingdom) that have the ability to calculate embodied carbon for different construction materials at bid stage, i.e. when building designs are often less developed. Building elements of particular interest are sub and super structure, facade, and fit out materials. I am interested in understanding how to access the tools and any limitations on their use, the output of the tools and how easily they allow different options to be compared, and how well they would allow for the costing of different options.
Ideal skills include:
- Understanding of embodied carbon calculations
- Familiarity with environmental impacts of building materials
- Knowledge of strategies for reducing embodied carbon in construction projects.
I anticipate this being a couple of days online research with some potential calls to the creators of tools to confirm usage policies, etc and then a simple write up of findings in a template to be agreed between us. Overall, 2 - 3 days work perhaps.
