Design the Visual Identity & Cover Layout for A New Sci-Fi Magazine in Spanish

Job ID: 40577316

Budget: €250 – €750 EUR

About this work
I am launching "Cosmonautas," the first 100% Spanish-language magazine exclusively dedicated to global science fiction. It is not a traditional literary journal. It is a dynamic, journalistic, and fun magazine that acts as a reading map, a cultural compass, and a community hub for sci-fi fans.

We cover literary reviews, awards, events, history, and the digital community with journalistic rigor and the heart of a fan. Our mission is to discover, connect, and professionalize the Spanish sci-fi ecosystem.

What I Need: The Permanent Cover Design

I need a designer to create the master cover layout and visual identity for all future issues of Cosmonautas.
This is a permanent design. It will remain consistent across all numbers, ensuring the magazine is instantly recognizable on a shelf or screen.

What the job includes:

1. Typography & Title Design: Design the magazine's title/logo ("Cosmonautas") and the typographic style for all cover text (subheadings, author names, issue number, date, price, etc.).

2. Cover Architecture: Create the layout grid and structure for the cover. This includes the placement of the title, the main illustration area, the text boxes for featured articles, the barcode area, and the magazine's tagline.

3. Color Palette & Visual System: Define a primary color palette and a visual system (e.g., use of lines, shapes, or geometric elements) that reflects the magazine's identity and can be adapted to different illustration styles each issue.

What the job DOES NOT include:

1. The cover illustration. I will hire a different illustrator for each issue. You are designing the frame, not the picture.

2. The interior layout. This job is exclusively for the cover.

About Our Brand (So You Understand the Vibe)

A little rebellious

References & Inspirations

I admire the editorial design of magazines like Hobby Consolas (for its professional, punchy layout), or the famous Locus Magazine, and the vibrant, illustration-forward aesthetic of many Chinese sci-fi magazines (like Science Fiction World). I love a clean, modern, and slightly futuristic look that feels both premium and accessible.

I will attach some cover examples I like. They are for visual inspiration only.

Deliverables

1. Master Cover Layout: A high-resolution, print-ready file (PSD, AI, or INDD) of the final cover design. The file must be sized to A4 format (21 x 29.7 cm) with 2 mm of bleed on all sides. This means the final artwork dimensions must be 21.4 x 30.1 cm. The design must be ready to be adapted for future issues with a simple text swap.

2. Style Guide: A PDF with the chosen fonts, color palette (CMYK values), and a clear explanation of how to use the layout (e.g., safe zones for text, margins, scaling rules).

3. Mockup: A photorealistic mockup of the first issue's cover (with placeholder text and a placeholder illustration) so I can visualize the final product.

Budget & Timeline

Budget: 250–450 € (negotiable based on experience and quality).

Timeline: 3 weeks from the start of the project.
