I’m an 18 year old apprentice jockey based with tom clover in Newmarket. Newmarket is the home of horse racing with 70/80 trainers in the town. 7, 000racing staff and 3,000 thoroubreds trained in the same town.
Growing up I did pony racing at a young age winning every race but 1. I then gave eventing a go, where we competed all over the country every weekend. I then left school at 16 and decided to pursue a career in horse racing. I left home at 16 and got a job in horse racing, gaining lots of valuable experience. I was extremely lucky to be sent by my boss to get my apprentice jockey licence out which I passed first time. Since then I have travelled over to Dubai for the winter with a horse which I rode every day, and he finished 1st and 3rd out in Dubai. I’ve now returned to England. Since then, I’ve continued to build connections with trainers and had one ride. I also go into Jane Chapple Hyam every Friday to build another connection with more trainers. Every day after work, I go to the “injured jockeys fund” to go to the gym and see my jockey coach.
Overall, I have great people behind me and some very good people backing me. I hope for a season full of learning and potentially the champion apprentice jockey title next year.
