Branding Strategy & Identity Development for “The Travellers Rest” Tourism Hub
Budget: £750 – £1,500 GBP
Project Overview
We are transforming The Travellers Rest, a cherished Llanidloes restaurant with a 52-year history, into a dynamic travel and tourism hub.
This revitalised hub will combine four interconnected elements:
Tourist Information Centre – a welcoming and inclusive gateway for visitors, offering comprehensive local information.
Curated Retail Gift Shop – selling local artisan products in-store and online (via Etsy).
Independent Travel Agency – providing national and international travel services.
Creative Studio – an on-site production space where many of our gifts will be crafted, as well as a creative service hub open to other local businesses (e.g. small-batch making, workshops, collaboration).
Our goal is to honour the heritage of The Travellers Rest and the Mid-Wales area while building a modern, cohesive, and memorable brand identity system that unites these elements under one umbrella.
Scope of Work
We are seeking a Branding Expert to deliver a detailed brand strategy and identity outline for:
Umbrella Brand* (The Travellers Rest)
Develop a brand concept blending heritage with modernity.
Create guidelines for logo (over-arching logo built from the logos of the sub-brands?)
Create guidelines for colour palette, typography, and tone of voice.
Define how sub-brands should connect visually and conceptually to the umbrella.
Sub-Brands
Discover Llanidloes* (Tourist Info & Retail)
Identity that celebrates local pride, heritage, community and language.
Component logo
Application ideas for signage, visitor info, and packaging for retail/Etsy.
Journeys* (Independent Travel Agency)
Identity that subtly references “The Travellers Rest” while projecting outward to adventure and aspiration.
Professional yet approachable tone to inspire trust in travel planning.
Creative Studio*
Identity for an on-site craft production hub.
Needs to serve Local businesses (who may use services for small-batch making, co-creation, or workshops) and online sales e.g. Etsy.
Should feel creative, authentic, and entrepreneurial — but still tied visually to the Travellers Rest umbrella.
* - The umbrella name must remain The Travellers Rest, but we are open to suggestions for names for the sub-brands.
Deliverables
Brand Identity Outline Document covering:
Brand positioning statements (umbrella + sub-brands).
Core values & tone of voice.
Logo design directions (conceptual, not final design).
Suggested colour palettes and typography.
Visual hierarchy showing umbrella + sub-brand relationships.
Application ideas (signage, social media, packaging, workshop branding).
Organisational Schematic Refinement
A more polished diagram showing umbrella, sub-brands, and their interconnections.
Demonstrate multiple revenue streams.
Recommendations for Bilingual Representation
How Welsh and English can co-exist within the brand identity (names, signage, marketing).
Future-proofing for bilingual brand applications.
Requirements
Skill in brand strategy and identity development (portfolio appreciated).
Ability to create heritage-inspired yet modern identities.
An understanding of tourism, retail, travel, and creative industry branding is desirable.
Welsh language awareness (not essential, but highly desirable) – as the brand develops, we want Welsh to be authentically and accurately represented in the identity and communications.
What We Provide
Current concept drafts (names, tagline ideas, schematic, draft logo directions).
Historical context for The Travellers Rest and its significance to Llanidloes.
Our vision for the hub’s role in the community and wider tourism market.
Budget & Timeline
Budget: Flexible, depending on experience and depth of proposal.
Timeline: Initial outline required within 3–4 weeks.
To Apply
Please share:
Examples of past branding work (especially if related to heritage, tourism, or bilingual brands).
A short outline of how you would approach this project, including sketch-work
Any relevant experience with Welsh culture or language.
