Futuristic Psychological Thriller Plot Development

I need a captivating plot and theme for a psychological thriller set in a futuristic city. The most critical aspect of this project is character development. The characters should be complex and intriguing and have the potential for significant growth and change throughout the story.
What's the main idea? There is a humanoid android that can think for itself and caught this virus, causing it to go mad, making it suffer from borderline personality disorder, PTSD, and schizophrenia. It cannot tell what's real or not. Throughout this robot's journey, it decides to turn evil and starts killing humans, spreading the virus to other robots. How is the robot made? I'm torn between an engineer who makes the first ever AI robot that can think for itself and teaches it in secret how to be human. The government learns about the robot and tries to steal it, and things go terribly wrong. Or a kid who wants to go to robotics school and makes the first self-aware robot for his entrance exam, making all the other kids jealous and going as far as to make this virus the fucks with the robot. Which causes the robot to go mad.
Of course, I want this to be scary. But mainly fucked up. A lot like Midsommar. It wasn't necessarily frightening, just what the fuck. I want extreme details, like how the robot stared at me without emotion as it carved into my skin. Or a lot of emotion. I mean, it does have a human face, and it suffers from schizophrenia and stuff.
